September 2009 Alkira Marine Services was commissioned by NSW Fisheries Department to install 300 reef balls in Lake Macquarie expanding the reef across an area of 3000 m2 the largest artificial estuarine reef to date. The artificial reef will regenerate the marine ecosystem creating a large fish habitat and enhance angler catches in the lake. This project incorporated the use of our 13.8 x 6.1metre barge with crane pushed by the Alkira 13metre work boat.
