Hunter River Remediation Project

Since April 2010 Alkira Marine Services has been contracted to Thiess Services for the Hunter River Remediation Project which includes marine transfers, spill response, site turbidity testing, silt curtain maintenance and dredge assistance. This site is the former BHP steel works which started in 1915 and closed in 1999 with employment peeking at over 11,000 people in 1958. During its 80 years of operation the steel works was the largest in the British Empire and produced steel for the modernisation of Australia including the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Alkira Marine Services has had crews onsite 24/7 for the past 10 months and as dredging is in its final stages will also be assisting with Validatiion of the different zones. With over 1,000,000 cubic metres of sediment dredged and more than 1,000,000 hours worked this has been a monumental project.

Airports Corporation Botany Bay

Alkira Marine Services provided various Mooring Services and Maintenance for the Botany Bay Airport Authority. This work was carried out in the Airport Exclusion Zone at the end of the runway. 

Department of Fisheries Artificial Reef

September 2009 Alkira Marine Services was commissioned by NSW Fisheries Department to install 300 reef balls in Lake Macquarie expanding the reef across an area of 3000 m2 the largest artificial estuarine reef to date. The artificial reef will regenerate the marine ecosystem creating a large fish habitat and enhance angler catches in the lake. This project incorporated the use of our 13.8 x 6.1metre barge with crane pushed by the Alkira 13metre work boat.

Botany Bay Desalination Project

Alkira Marine Services was contacted to provide Marine Services for the Botany Bay Desalination Project. The included assisting as the Dive support vessel for crew's to work on the underwater pipeline.
